Product Photography
How can I get the best results from my product photography?
Product photography can be difficult.
But with a little help you can improve your photos and present your products in a better light.
- Learn to use light.
Using light will greatly improve the clarity of any image. For a crisper image using more light will enable you to speed up exposure times, reducing the risk of camera or product movement. While using the absence of light with shadow will allow you to work with the mood of your subject.
- Reduce Reflections
Especially on shiny, metal objects, reflections can be a nightmare. Making sure that you don't appear in your image is a must when taking an image that needs to appear professional. One way to reduce reflection is to use a light tent. A light tent is normally a white material construct that contains the product. The tent allows light to filter through the material from external light sources and has a small opening in the front for the camera lens to sneak through.
- Subtlty in Retouching
One way to kill an image is to overly retouch it with a program like photoshop. The less retouching you can apply to the image once taken the better. If you have to retouch an image, make sure you save your original in a safe place and refer to it during the retouching process, to confirm that your alterations look natural.
